You Can Succeed, And You Will.
You Deserve the Support That you Need to Do it.
That's Why we're here.
You may have had difficulty achieving success in the "regular" classroom. Maybe you think you "are not a good student".
Not true.
You've been learning things all your life, and you know many, many things after being alive for so long. Given the chance, you also have more than one way to share what you know with other people.
There are many different ways to learn and many different ways to know things and to show what you know.
Educators know this but in big classes and big schools, it's really difficult to make big changes.
The ILC is a different kind of school, and we can make changes more easily because we work with smaller numbers of students at a time. This gives us a chance to help you prove to YOURSELF that you are, in fact, good at learning, that you do know things and you can show the instructors what you know in a variety of ways.

Learning isn't just a checklist
There is sometimes sometimes a mix up between 'getting work done' and 'learning'.
At the ILC, we believe that you deserve to be treated with respect and that means that we believe that you are capable learners. So, we expect excellence and your best efforts from you, and we hope you expect your best from yourself.
We know that some days, your best will be more or less time put in than other days, more or less work accomplished, more or less But the effort you are willing to make determines how successful you will be.
Often, you're going to get projects, assignments or tests back to revamp, bump up or edit and revise. This is NOT to punish or annoy you. Whether you play video games, organized sports or skateboard, whether you cut hair, sing or create art, practice is the key to using skills and knowledge effectively. You wouldn't strap on skates for the first the day before the Big Game and expect to win Olympic Gold. When you skateboard, you know you'll fall, and you'll get injured, and you'll get up and try again. Learning things is school isn't any different, really, it's just your mind that has to prepare and to get back up and try again, rather than your body, or the avatar in a video game.
When you get back work at the ILC, be sure to talk to one of the instructors - in order to help you, we need to know when you need and want help and are ready for it. We will sit with you and provide you the feedback and support you need to take your work from practice level to championship, whatever that looks like for you.
We do this so that when you graduate from the ILC, or just when you're outside the school environment, you know how to show the world the very best of yourself, so that you have the most and best possible choices and opportunities in life. And so that you feel confident in yourself as a knowledgeable, capable person with skills to share - a valuable asset to the world, to any employer, to any educational institute or apprenticeship program, and to your community
THAT Is what learning is really about. It's what the ILC is all about.
